Carl Angelo was born in Battle Creek, Michigan playing multiple sports at Battle Creek Central High School. He helped the basketball team reach 1949 – 1950 state semi-finals. After graduation he played basketball at Lawrence Tech before moving on to play baseball at Michigan State. He was in the Chicago White Sox organization for a year before joining the military in 1955. Angelo went on to an outstanding amateur career for Sullivan’s Baseball Club of Grand Rapids. Angelo is believed to be the winningest pitcher in the history of amateur baseball with a record of 353 - 69 including 13 no-hitters. His name is synonymous with baseball in Battle Creek. Carl Angelo has been inducted into ten Halls of Fame including the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. He passed away on July 1, 2020 at 88 years of age.
