Wayne Walker was born in Boise, Idaho, graduating from Boise High School before attending the University of Idaho. As a senior, Walker was named a team captain and earned second-team all-conference honors. He was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game after his season and earned the Most Valuable defensive player award. He was selected in the fourth round of the 1958 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions spending his entire 15-year NFL career with the Lions. Walker was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and was a three-time All-Pro, playing in 200 games for the Lions. Following his playing career, Walker went on to a broadcast career that spanned 20 additional years. Wayne Walker was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He passed away on May 19, 2017 at 80 years of age.
