Vinnie Johnson was born in Brooklyn, New York attending Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. Johnson attended McClennan Community College for two years before finishing up at Baylor University where he was a two-time All-American. Johnson was selected as the seventh overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1979 NBA Draft andspent parts of three season with Seattle before being traded to the Pistons in 1982. His career flourished and he earned thee nickname “the Microwave” for his ability to come off the bench and score many points in a short period of time. Johnson was a mainstay on the “Bad Boys” Piston teams of the late 1980’s that won back-to-back NBA Championships (1989 to 1990). Johnson finished up his NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs, retiring after the 1992 season. Vinnie Johnson had his number “15” retired by the Pistons in 1994 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
