Ted Lindsay was born in Renfrew, Ontario and grew up one of five boys taking his first strides at the age of nine. Lindsay played his junior hockey at St. Michael’s in Toronto eventually winning a Memorial Cup Championship in 1944 with Oshawa. He went on to sign with the Red Wings and made his NHL debut in the 1944 – 1945 season. He would spend his first 14 seasons with the Red Wings being teamed with Sid Abel and Gordie Howe on a line that became known as the “Production Line”. He was traded to the Chicago Black Hawks where he spent three seasons and after four years away from the game finished out his career with one more season on the Red Wings. During his career, he played in 1,088 games scoring 379 goals and 472 assists, winning four Stanley Cups and the Art Ross Trophy. He was a first-team All-Star eight times and appeared in eleven All-Star games. After his playing career ended, he coached the Red Wings for parts of two seasons and was named General Manager for four seasons, winning the Executive of the Year in 1977. Lindsay was named one of the “100 Greatest NHL Players” in history in 2017 and had his number “7” retired by the Detroit Red Wings in 1991. Ted Lindsay was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966, Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1966.  He passed away on March 4, 2019 at 93 years of age.
