Sheila Taormina was born in Livonia, Michigan and is the first woman to qualify for the Olympics in three different sports. While attending the University of Georgia, she earned All-American honors in Swimming and Diving all four years, winning the Southeastern Conference (SEC) title in the 400-meter individual medley in her senior year. Sheila won a gold medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in the 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay. She competed in the triathlon in both the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympics as well as competing in the modern pentathlon in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Sheila Taormina was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
