Detroit Red Wings Player (1990 – 2003)
Sergei Fedorov was born in Pskov, Soviet Union and was a Russian Hockey player before being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round of the 1989 NHL entry draft. In 1990 Fedorov defected from the Soviet Union to the United States to play for the Red Wings and with his speed and skill he immediately became a star, considered by some experts to be among the best players in the world. He spent 13 of his 18 NHL seasons with the Red Wings helping them win three Stanley Cup Championships. Fedorov was a six-time NHL All Star, won the Hart Trophy (1994), and scored 1,179 points in 1249 NHL games. After his NHL career was over he went back to Russia to play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for three more seasons where he became a three-time All Star. Fedorov was named as one of the 100 greatest NHL Hockey players, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015, while also being inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
