William Scott (Scotty) Bowman

Detroit Red Wings coach (1993 – 2002)

Scotty Bowman was born in Verdun, Quebec and played minor league hockey until a fractured skull ended his playing career. His coaching career started with the Ottawa Junior Canadians and moved progressively higher over the next ten years. His NHL coaching career started in 1967 with the St. Louis Blues where he stayed for four seasons before moving on to the Montreal Canadians where he won five Stanley Cup Championships in his eight seasons. Bowman then moved on to Buffalo for seven seasons on to Pittsburgh for two seasons winning a Stanley Cup before finishing his NHL coaching career with nine seasons with the Red Wings winning three additional Stanley Cup C)hampionships. At the time of his retirement, over 30 seasons Bowman had accumulated an NHL record nine Stanley Cups while winning 1,24 regular season games.  During Bowman's career as a Red Wing coach his record was 410 - 193 - 88.  After his retirement from coaching Bowman served as a consultant with the Red Wings from 2002 through 2008 winning an additional Stanley Cup.  Scotty Bowman was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2003, Officer of the Order of Canada in 2012, the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991 and was inducted the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
