Norm Cash was born in Justiceburg, Texas and attended Sul Ross State Teachers College where he was all-conference in both football and baseball. After signing with the Chicago White Sox in 1955, he spent one year in the military and made his Major League debut in 1958, with limited duty in both 1958 and 1959 and was traded in the off-season first to the Cleveland Indians and then to the Tigers where he spent the remainder of his career. Cash was a fan and player favorite during his time with the Tigers. He was a key member of the Tigers 1968 World Series Championship, during his 15-year Tiger career he batted .272, with 373 home runs and 1,088 RBI. He was the 1961 A.L. batting champion with a .361 batting average and was a five-time All-Star. Norm Cash was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1984. He passed away on October 11, 1986 at 51 years of age.
