Nick Lidstrom was born in Krylbo, Sweden, was drafted 53rd overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1989 NHL entry draft. Lidstrom’s NHL career spanned 20 seasons, all with the Red Wings and is widely regarded to be one of the greatest Defenseman in NHL History. Lidstrom’s play helped the Red Wings win four Stanley Cup Championships. He has also appeared in 12 All-Star games, won seven Norris Trophies, a Conn Smythe trophy, among many other awards. During his 20 seasons, Lidstrom played in 1564 games scoring 1142 points. He also won an Olympic Gold Medal as well as a World Championship Gold medal for Team Sweden. Nick Lidstrom had his number “5” retired by the Red Wings, was named as one of the 100 greatest NHL Hockey players, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015, while also being inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
