Mike Modano was born in Livonia, MI, and grew up in nearby Westland, Michigan.  After an extremely successful Minor Hockey career he was selected first overall by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1988 NHL draft, only the second American to be selected first. Modano quickly became a key component to the North Stars attack. When the North Star franchise moved to Dallas and became the Stars, Modano became a fan favorite. Modano’s career in Dallas continued until 2010 when he signed for one season with the Red Wings. Modano won one Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars (1999), was selected to seven All-Star games and at the time of his retirement held records for most goals (561), and points (1374) by an American-born player and most games by an American-born forward. (1499). Modano had an extensive International Hockey career with Team USA winning gold (1999) and silver (1991) medals in the World Cup of Hockey and a silver medal (2002) in the Winter Olympics. Mike Modano was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014, in 2017 he was named as one of the 100 Hockey Greatest Hockey players, and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
