Detroit Tigers Player (1963 - 1975)
Mickey Lolich was born in Portland Oregon and attended Lincoln High School. He was signed as a free agent by the Tigers in 1958 and worked his way through the Tigers minor league system, making his major league debut in 1963. Over the next few seasons, Lolich became a mainstay on the Tigers pitching staff and was instrumental in the Tigers 1968 World Series championship as he pitched 3 complete game victories, defeating Bob Gibson and the St. Louis Cardinals in the decisive game seven and winning World Series MVP honors. Lolich was known for his consistency as he struck out over 200 batters seven times in his career and won 14 or more games for ten consecutive seasons. In Lolich's 13 seasons with the Tigers, he compiled a record of 207 – 175 with a 2.75 ERA, 2,,679 strikeouts, 39 shutouts and 190 complete games and three All-Star game appearances. Mickey Lolich was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.
