Mark Howe was born in Detroit, Michigan and is the son of hockey legend Gordie Howe. He started his junior hockey career with the Detroit Jr. Red Wings and as a 15-year-old in 1971 led his team to the U.S. Junior Championships and was the youngest member on the silver medal winning U.S. Hockey team in the 1972 Olympics. In 1973, Mark chose to play for the Houston Aeros of the WHA with his father and brother, Marty and the trio led the Aeros to championships in 1974 and 1975. The Howe’s continued to play together through a move to Hartford, first in the WHA and then into the NHL through the 1981 season. Howe played for the Philadelphia Flyers for 10 seasons and ended his career after three years with the Detroit Red Wings.  He helped mentor a core of players that would go on to win four Stanley Cups Championships over the next 13 seasons. His 22-year professional hockey career included many individual and team awards. Mark Howe has been inducted in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003, the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
