Joseph Rene Marcel Pronovost
Detroit Red Wings Player (1949 - 1965)
Marcel Pronovost was born in Lac-a-la-Tortue, Quebec, Canada and started playing hockey at age three. By the time he was 14 he was leading his midget team to the Quebec provincial championship where he was spotted by scouts from the Detroit Red Wings. He signed with the Red Wings and by 1949 he started a 21-year NHL career, primarily with the Red Wings, with a few years at the end of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pronovost helped the Red Wings win four Stanley Cup Championships as well as one with Toronto and three more as a New Jersey Devils scout. He played in 1206 NHL games and appeared in 11 All-Star games. Marcel Pronovost was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. He passed away April 26, 2015 at 84 years of age.
