Kate Sobrero-Markgraf was born in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and attended Detroit Country Day School (DCDS), while at DCDS she excelled in both volleyball and soccer. Her soccer career included three All-State awards leading her team to the 1991 state championship as well as being named an NSCAA All-American. Kate continued her soccer career at the University of Notre Dame, where she was a three time all Big East selection and a three time All-American, while leading her team to the 1995 National championship. Kate continued her soccer career by competing on the US Women’s National Team appearing in 201 matches, helping Team USA win two gold (2004, 2008) and one silver medal (2000) in Olympic competition along with winning one FIFA Women’s World Cup title (1999) and two third place finishes (2003, 2007). Sobrero-Markgraf also played professionally from 2001 through 2010, she was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
