John James MacInnes

University of Michigan Hockey Player (1945 – 1950)
Michigan Technological University Hockey Coach (1956 – 1982)

John MacInnes was born in Toronto, Ontario and played goalie at the University of Michigan where he helped the Wolverines to a pair of league titles and a third-place finish at the 1950 NCAA Championship. He went on to a very successful coaching career at Michigan Tech for 26 seasons. His record was 555 – 295 – 39 and his teams won three NCAA championships, seven Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) titles. MacInnes was named NCAA coach of the year twice and WCHA coach of the year six times. John MacInnes was inducted into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1984, the University of Michigan Athletic Hall of Honor in 1994, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1984. He passed away on March 6, 1983 at 57 years of age.
