Joe Dumars was born in Shreveport, Louisiana playing sports at Natchitoches Central High School. He went on to a stellar career at McNeese State where he finished his four-year career as the eleventh leading scorer in NCAA history. He was then selected as the number 18 overall pick by the Detroit Pistons in the 1985 Draft. He played his entire 14-year career with the Pistons and was a key contributor in helping them win two NBA Championships. He was a six-time NBA All-Star and was a four-time All-Defensive team member. He was the first recipient of the Sportsmanship award, an award that now bears his name. He followed his playing career by becoming a Pistons executive, where he won another NBA Championship in 2004 and was named NBA Executive of the Year in 2003. Following his retirement, his #4 jersey was retired by both the Detroit Pistons and McNeese State. Joe Dumars was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006, the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
