Detroit Tigers Manager (2006 – 2013)
Jim Leyland was born in Perrysburg, Ohio and started his professional baseball career in the Detroit Tigers organization, after seven years as a player/coach, he focused his efforts on managing. Leyland spent the next 10 years managing at various levels in the Tigers minor league organization. He got his first Major League managerial job with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1986 to 1996) and led them to three National League Championship Series appearances (1990 to 1992), winning NL Manager of the Year awards (1990, 1992). Leyland went on to manage the Florida Marlins in 1997 and 1998, winning the World Series in 1997. He went on to manage the Colorado Rockies in 1996 followed by returning to the Tigers from 2006 to 2013, appearing in the World Series in 2006 and 2012 and winning the Manager of the year award in 2006. At the time of his retirement, Leyland’s 1769 wins rank him 17th all-time. Leyland's managerial record with the Tigers is 700 - 597. Jim Leyland was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
