Jim Brandstatter was born and raised in East Lansing, Michigan and played football at the University of Michigan from 1969 to 1971, he was named All-Big Ten as a senior and helped the Wolverines to two Rose Bowl appearances.  Since 1979, Brandstatter has been heard on the U of M radio Network, first doing the color commentary with Frank Beckmann and more recently as the play-by-play man with Dan Dierdorf. He also spent 31 years from 1987 to 2018 doing the color commentary on Detroit Lion broadcasts.  Since 1980, Brandstatter has been the host of the syndicated television show Michigan Replay/Inside Michigan Football.  Brandstatter was twice named Michigan Sportscaster of the Year, was President of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association and received the Ty Tyson Award winner for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting in Michigan.  Brandstatter has also written two nonfiction books about Michigan Wolverines football.  In 2014, Jim Brandstatter was inducted into the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, the Gridiron Greats Hall of Fame and was inducted into Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
