Jerome Bettis was born in Detroit, Michigan and attended Mackenzie High School where he was a standout running back and linebacker earning Michigan Player of the Year honors during his senior year. He attended the University of Notre Dame where once again he was a standout running back. He was the tenth overall selection in the 1993 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams where he spent three seasons before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers where he would finish out his career. Bettis helped lead the Steelers to the Super Bowl XL championship (played in Detroit) along with many personal awards including; six-time Pro Bowl selection, two-time first team All-Pro, Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team. Bettis ended his career as one of the NFL’s all-time leading rushers with 13,684 yards and 91 touchdowns. Jerome Bettis was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
