Jack Morris was born in St. Paul, Minnesota attending Highland Park High School before playing baseball at Brigham Young University. He was selected in the fifth round of the 1976 MLB draft and soon established himself as the ace of the Tigers pitching staff. Over his 13-year career with the Tigers, he was the American League’s dominant pitcher of the 1980’s, helping them win the 1984 World Series. He played with three other teams before retiring after the 1994 season, helping both Minnesota and Toronto win an additional three World Series titles. During his Detroit Tigers career, Morris won 198 games with 1,980 strikeouts, an ERA of 3.92 with 154 complete games. Morris pitched a no-hitter in 1984, was named a five-time All Star, a two-time AL wins leader an AL strikeout leader and a World Series MVP. Jack Morris’ number 47 was retired by the Tigers, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
