Greg Barton was born in Jackson, Michigan and is an American sprint kayaker. Barton has competed in three Summer Olympic Games winning four medals; two gold medals (K-1 1000-meters m, and K-2 1000-meter m) in the 1988 Seoul Olympics; and two bronze medals both in the K-1 1000-meters m in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Barton has also won four gold and two bronze medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships from 1985 – 1991 at varying distances. Barton received his BSE degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1983. He has a race named in his honor “The Greg Barton Cup Challenge for the United States Canoe Association”. Greg Barton was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
