Michigan State Football Player (1964 – 1966)
George Webster was born in Anderson, South Carolina attending Westside High School before going on to attend Michigan State for three seasons helping the Spartans to a share of the 1965 and 1966 National Championships. He earned All-Big Ten and All-American honors in both 1965 and 1966. Webster became the number five overall draft pick by the Houston Oilers in the 1967 AFL draft and was named AFL Rookie of the Year in 1967. Over his ten-year AFL/NFL career, he played for three teams and was a three-time AFL All-Star and was named to the AFL All-Time Team. His number 90 was the second number retired by the Michigan State Spartans. George Webster was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He passed away on April 19, 2007 at 61 years of age.
