George Blaha was born in Detroit, Michigan. As an undergraduate student he attended the University of Notre Dame while obtaining his MBA from the University of Michigan. In 1976, Blaha became the play-by-play man for the Detroit Pistons and as of 2018 is still doing the Pistons games having missed only three games due to illness during that span. Blaha is currently the play-by-play radio voice of the Michigan State football team and does Detroit area TV and radio commercials. He was also the radio play-by-play voice of the Michigan State basketball team during the 2000 – 2001 season. In 2002, Blaha was the recipient of the Ty Tyson Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. He is an active member of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. George Blaha was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
