George Acker was born in Dixon, IL and after graduating from Dixon High School, went on to Northern Illinois University. He joined Kalamazoo College in December 1958 and went on to coach the Tennis team for the next 35 seasons, while also coaching football for ten seasons, wrestling for seven seasons and cross country for five seasons. His tennis teams won the MIAA Conference championship 35 times and seven D-III National Championships. He was named D-III coach of the year in 1982 and 1991, and the D-III coach of the Decade (1990’s). He coached 38 players who earned individual All-American honors. George also directed the Kalamazoo City Tennis Program for 13 years. George Acker was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2012, he passed away on July 20, 2011 at 82 years of age.
