Frank Tanana was born in Detroit, Michigan and attended Detroit Catholic Central High School before heading to California State University, Fullerton. In 1973, Tanana became one of the mainstays of the California Angels pitching staff and remained there for the next seven season, appearing in three consecutive All-Star games from 1976 to 1978. During his 20-year MLB career that spanned six teams, Tanana would go on to win 240 games, accumulate 2,773 strikeout and compile a 3.56 Earned Run Average. His 1 – 0 complete game shutout on the last day of the season over the Toronto Blue Jays helped lift the Tigers into the 1987 MLB playoffs. Frank Tanana was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
