Lloyd Brazil was born in Bay City, Michigan and earned ten varsity athletic letters as a three-sport athlete at Flint Central High School. Brazil moved on to the University of Detroit where he starred in football and basketball. As a football player, Brazil carried the ball nearly 500 times in his three years and gained 5,681 yards helping the Titans to a three-year record of 23 – 3 – 1 and an undefeated season in 1928. After graduation, he stayed on at the university and in 1930 became the head basketball coach compiling a record of 184 – 118 over sixteen seasons. In 1944 he added the role of head baseball coach and over nineteen seasons compiled a 222 – 144 record. He added the role of Athletic Director in 1943 through 1951, in all he spent 38 years at the University of Detroit as either a player, coach or administrator. Lloyd Brazil was inducted the Detroit Mercy Titans Hall of Fame in 1977 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1961. He passed away on April 3, 1965 at 58 years of age.
