For thousands of Michigan sports fans, their memories of watching their favorite teams on TV include Shane. For 23 years, he was the lead sports anchor at ABC affiliate WXYZ-TV in Detroit, where he reported from sidelines and locker rooms during the biggest sports moments from 1989-2012. This included four Red Wings Stanley Cups, three Pistons NBA Championships, Rose Bowls, Tigers World Series appearances and Opening Days, Super Bowl XL, golf championships and boxing championships.

In addition to his nightly sportscasts, Shane was well-known to fans for his “Big Ten Ticket” football pregame shows, hosted with Michigan Sports Hall of Fame coach Bo Schembechler and his “Dare Don” segments, where viewers would challenge him to athletic feats. He won 23 Emmy awards.

Earlier in his career, he reported and anchored sports for TV stations in Chicago and Boston and at WDIV-TV in Detroit. Shane retired from sportscasting in 2012 and passed away in 2023.
