Dick Enberg was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, went to high school in Armada and then on to college at Central Michigan where he played college baseball. After graduation he went on to Indiana University where he received his masters and doctorate degrees in health sciences. It was during his time at Indiana, that Enberg started broadcasting events like the Little 500 bicycle race and Indiana Hoosier football and basketball games as well as the 1961 NCAA basketball championship. In the late 1960s, Enberg began broadcasting events in the Los Angeles area and was a springboard to the national television networks. In 1975 Enberg joined the NBC network and over the next quarter century was their top broadcaster before moving to CBS Sports and on to ESPN. As the top broadcaster for all these networks, Enberg has broadcast Super Bowls, World Series, the Masters, Wimbledon plus a plethora of other top International events too numerous to mention. Dick Enberg’s honors are many and include; the Ford Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Pete Rozelle Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Curt Gowdy Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Dick Enberg was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. He passed away on December 21, 2017 at 82 years of age.
