Cincy Sachs was born in Russia and moved to Cincinnati with his family at around the age of 2. He developed an interest in basketball at the age of ten serving as a mascot in a YMCA gym before eventually moving to Detroit at age 17. Sachs spent over 50 years as a basketball coach, teacher, promoter, scout, referee at the college, semi-professional, professional, and AAU levels. Sachs coached teams won 782 games while losing only 158 and totaled 28 championships. Sachs team often traveled with the Harlem Globetrotters, winning many of the games. Sachs had an impact on hundreds if not thousands of basketball players over the years with his basketball school and his overall impact on the game of basketball will be felt forever. Cincy Sachs was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1979. He passed away on December 19 1973 at 71 years of age.
