Chuck Kocsis was born in Pulaski, Pennsylvania, moved to Detroit at a young age and attended Redford High School where he won golf championships at the city and state levels. He went on to attend the University of Michigan and was a key member of their golf dynasty of the mid-1930’s where he helped them win multiple national championships while winning individual medalist honors as a senior. Kocsis had a very successful amateur golf career winning two Michigan Open and five Michigan Amateur titles and was the low amateur at one Masters and two U.S. Open golf tournaments. He was also very successful as an amateur at the senior level. The Golf Association of Michigan voted Kocsis the amateur golfer of the century. Chuck Kocsis was inducted into inaugural class of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame, the University of Michigan Athletic Hall of Honor in 1979 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1974. He passed away on May 30, 2006 at 93 years of age.
