Chuck Davey was born in Detroit, Michigan. He went on to Michigan State where he won an NCAA boxing title as a Freshman, he then went on to serve four years of active duty in World War II before returning to win three additional NCAA titles finishing his amateur career with a 93 – 1 record, as well as being a member of Team USA boxing in the 1948 Summer Olympics. Davey went on to an outstanding professional boxing career, going 42 – 5 – 2 with 26 knockouts, with four of his five defeats coming in his last five bouts. After his career ended, Davey became the Boxing Commissioner for the State of Michigan and the president of the U.S. Boxing Association. Chuck Davey was inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1980. He passed away on December 4, 2002 at 77 years of age.
