Chuck Bernard was born in Chicago, Illinois but his family moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan where he was an outstanding athlete at Benton Harbor High School earning Michigan’s outstanding high school athlete in 1928 and 1929. Chuck went on to an outstanding football career at the University of Michigan from (1931 – 1933) where as a two-way player, helped lead the Wolverines to two undefeated seasons (1932 and 1933). He was named a consensus first-team All-American in 1933. He went on to play one season with the Detroit Lions (1934) before retiring. Chuck Bernard was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. He passed away on March 30, 1962 at 48 years of age.
