Chris Spielman was born in Canton, Ohio and graduated from Massillon Washington High School where he was a High School All-American and earned the Dial Award symbolic of the national high school scholar athlete of the year in 1983. He went on to attend The Ohio State University where he had an outstanding career, becoming a two-time All American winning the Lombardi Award symbolic of the best college football lineman or linebacker among other awards. Spielman was selected in the second round of the 1988 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions. During his 11-year NFL career spent primarily with the Detroit Lions, Spielman helped lead the Lions to four playoff appearances and two NFC Central titles while leading the Lions in tackles in seven of his eight seasons. Spielman was named to four Pro Bowls and was a three-time All-Pro selection. Chris Spielman was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
