Cecil Fielder
Nicknamed “Big Daddy,” Fielder provided Detroit Tigers fans with memorable moments as baseball’s premier home run hitter of the early ‘90s. After a year playing in Japan, Fielder signed with the Tigers before the 1990 season and that year, he finished the season with 51 home runs and 132 RBIs as the first Tiger since Hank Greenberg in 1938 and only the second MLB player in 25 years to reach the 50 home run mark.
With 44 home runs in 1991, Fielder became the first Tiger since Hank Greenberg to eclipse 40 home runs in consecutive seasons and finished second in Most Valuable Player voting in the American League for the second straight year. He led the American League in RBIs three years in a row between 1990 and 1992. A three-time All-Star remembered for his especially long home runs, Fielder was the only Tiger to hit a ball over Tiger Stadium’s left field roof.
After leaving the Tigers in 1996, Fielder played for three more teams and retired with 319 career home runs.
