Carl Banks was born and raised in Flint, Michigan graduating from Beecher High School before attending Michigan State University. He had an outstanding career for the Spartans earning All-American honors, being named a three-time All-Big Ten selection, and called one of the greatest defenders in school and conference history. He was selected third overall by the New York Giants in the 1984 NFL Draft and played nine seasons for the Giants helping them win two Super Bowls (XXI, XXV). Carl went on to play three additional seasons with the Washington Redskins and two more with the Cleveland Browns before retiring after the 1995 season. He was named an All-Pro in 1987 playing in the Pro Bowl, he was also named to the NFL 1980’s All-Decade Team. Carl Banks was inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012 and inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
