Brad Van Pelt was born in Owosso, Michigan and graduated from Owosso High School where he was a three-sport star, earning all-state honors in football and all-conference honors in basketball and baseball. He went on to attend Michigan State where he earned seven varsity letters in the three sports. His primary sport was football where he earned All-American honors in both his junior and senior seasons along with winning the Maxwell Award emblematic of College Football’s top player during his senior year. Van Pelt was selected by the New York Giants in the second round of the 1973 NFL Draft. He would go on to play 11 of his 14 NFL seasons with the Giants and would be named to five Pro Bowls during that time. Brad Van Pelt was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001, the Michigan State Sports Hall of Fame, the New York Giants Ring of Honor in 2011 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He passed away on February 17, 2009 at 57 years of age.
