Bob Devaney was born in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Alma College and played college football where he played end. He coached at multiple high schools in Michigan before joining Biggie Munn’s staff at Michigan State. His first head coaching position was at Wyoming where he was successful in winning the Conference title in four of his five seasons. This success enabled him to accept the head coaching position at Nebraska, where he continued his successful ways winning eight Big Eight Conference titles in his 11 seasons with two of those seasons ending in NCAA National Championships (1970 and 1971). In 1967 he added the role of Athletic Director at Nebraska where stayed until 1993. Bob Devaney was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1981 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. He passed away on May 9, 1997 at 82 years of age.
