Robert Richard (Bob) Chappuis
University of Michigan Football Player (1942, 1946-1947)
Bob Chappuis was born in Toledo, Ohio and attended DeVilbiss High School where he was a star football player. He went on to attend the University of Michigan in 1942 before serving three years of military service in the U.S. Army Air Forces (1943 to 1945) upon returning to the U of M in 1946 he resumed an outstanding career, where he was the Big Ten’s offensive champion in 1946 and 1947. He earned first-team All-American honors and finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting in 1947. Chappuis played for the Brooklyn Dodgers of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) in 1948 and ended his professional career in 1949 playing for the Chicago Hornets. Bob Chappuis was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, the U of M Athletic Hall of Honor in 1984 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. He passed away on June 14, 2012 at 89 years of age.
