Andy Farkas was born in Clay Center, Ohio and attended Toledo St. John High School for his first two years before moving to Detroit and attending the University of Detroit High School. He went to college and played football at the University of Detroit where as a hard-charging running back was third in the nation in scoring and was named an All-American in 1937. He was the ninth overall selection in the 1938 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. He spent seven seasons and helped lead the Redskins to the 1942 NFL Championship, he finished his career with the Lions in the 1945 season. He was named to the Pro Bowl on two occasions and was named one of the 70 greatest Redskins. Andy Farkas was inducted into the Detroit Mercy Titans Hall of Fame in 1977 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1983. He passed away on April 10, 2001 at 84 years of age.
