Alexander Francis (Alex) Wojciechowicz
Detroit Lions Player (1938 – 1946)
Alex Wojciechowicz was born in South River, New Jersey and played college football for the Fordham Rams from 1935 – 1937 and was a key member of the famed “Seven Blocks of Granite” along with Vince Lombardi. He was selected a first-team All-American in both 1936 and 1937. Wojciechowicz was selected as the sixth overall draft pick of the 1938 NFL draft. He spent nine years playing for the Lions and was a 60-minutes a game player, appearing in 86 games during those nine seasons. He spent five additional seasons with Philadelphia, helping the Eagles win two NFL Championships. He was a member of the NFL 1940’s All-Decade Team. Alex Wojciechowicz was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955, the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 1968, and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. He passed away on July 13, 1992 at 76 years of age.
