Albert Andrew “Al” Watrous
Professional Golfer (1921 - 1961)
Al Watrous was born in Yonkers, New York and moved to Michigan at an early age. Watrous was the club professional at Oakland Hills Country Club for 37 years and was very successful in Michigan events, winning the Michigan PGA championship nine times and the Michigan Open six times. In all he won eight PGA tour events but no major championships, plus an additional seven senior tour wins in the 1950s. He played on the first two Ryder Cup teams in 1927 and 1929. Al Watrous was inducted into the charter class of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame in 1982 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1962. He passed away on December 3, 1983 at 84 years of age.
