Ron Thompson was born in Detroit, Michigan and attended Northwestern High School. His career was devoted to helping the youth of Detroit either through his work with the Westside Cubs Youth Program, through his work at St. Cecilia’s’, or as a high school football coach. Ron coached at both Detroit Mackenzie and at Detroit St. Martin De Porres where he won eight state football championships, his overall coaching record was 171 -50 - 1. Ron also won a national title in the 1960’s with a youth baseball team. Ron Thompson was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1995 and was inducted the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. He passed away on October 27, 1994 at 59 years of age.
