James Arthur (Jim) Campbell

Jim Campbell was born in Huron, Ohio, playing four sports at Huron High School. Campbell went on to attend Ohio State and played freshman football in 1942 before serving in the U.S. Navy Air Corps from 1943 - 1946. He returned to Ohio State playing three years on the baseball team. In 1949 he joined the Tigers organization as a business manager at the Class D level and remained employed in multiple positions through the 1992 season. During his employment in the Tigers organization, he was promoted to the Major League level in 1957, moving to General Manager in 1962 through 1983. It was during this time that Campbell made a series of moves that helped the Tigers win two World Series championships (1968, 1984). Campbell would work his way up to Tiger’s president and eventually to Chairman.  Jim Campbell was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1985. He passed away on October 31, 1995 at 71 years of age.
