H.G. Salsinger was born in Springfield, Ohio and started working for a Dayton, Ohio newspaper at the age of 14. He moved on to the Cincinnati Post before joining the Detroit News in 1907 where he remained until his retirement in January 1958. His brilliant career as a writer and editor covered nearly the first half of the 20th century. Accurate, concise, and colorful his words put him at the top of his field, he was one of the most respected men in his profession. At various times during his career, he was the President of the Football Writers of America and the Baseball Writers of America. H.G. Salsinger was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. He passed away on November 27, 1958 at 73 years of age.
