Greg Meyer

Greg Meyer was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended Grand Rapids West Catholic High School and the University of Michigan, where Meyer was a four-time All-American. He was the first Michigan native to break four minutes for the mile. In 1983, Meyer won the Boston Marathon with a winning time of 2:09.00 and was the last American to win the race until 2014. He had previously won Marathons in Detroit in 1980 and Chicago in 1982. Meyer has set ten American road racing records and two world records along with winning the Old Kent River Bank Run in his hometown of Grand Rapids on seven occasions. Greg Meyer was inducted into the U of M Athletic Hall of Honor and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
