Budd Lynch was born in Windsor, Ontario. He started his broadcast career as a play-by-play announcer with the Windsor Spitfires before Jack Adams asked him to call the games of the Detroit Red Wings in 1949, remaining the voice of the Red Wings until 1985, when Marian Ilitch asked him to stay on as public address announcer, a position he held until 2012. Lynch received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award in 1985 from the NHL Broadcasters’ Association, and in 2005 he received the Ty Tyson Excellence in Sports Broadcasting Award by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. He was a two-time Past President of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. Budd Lynch was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. He passed away on October 9, 2012 at 95 years of age.
